How to Choose the Perfect Veneer Shape and Size for Your Face

Mar 15, 2022

If you have a damaged tooth, a veneer may be the perfect way to restore your smile with minimal impact on the rest of your mouth. Veneers are durable and easy to install, coming in many colors and shapes. As part of your consultation, your dentist will help you choose from these many options, but you may feel more confident in your choice if you have a chance to review before your appointment.

Veneer Shapes for the Six Most Common Face Shapes

The LVI Smile Library is composed of 12 styles that have differing shapes on the six teeth in the front of your mouth, from the middle of your mouth to your canines. These teeth can be square or rounded and angled in different ways to change the appearance of the smile so that it suits the shape of your face better.

  • Round.  As with a circle, the middle of this face - the cheekbones - are the widest part. To add contrast to this shape, more pointed veneers and stronger lines might be preferred.
  • Square or Rectangle.  These faces have foreheads, cheekbones and jawlines of approximately the same width. To balance the sharper angles of this shape, rounded veneers are a good choice.
  • Oval.  The forehead is the widest part of an oval face. Longer than they are wide, ovals may benefit from choosing square or blunt veneers to add some width to the face.
  • Heart or Diamond. These faces are defined by narrow foreheads and chins. To balance this sharpness and maintain proportions, short rounded veneers would work well.

At Midtown Dental Care, we want you to love your results, and a better-informed decision can only help. You will get high-quality veneers no matter what shape you choose. Contact us today with any questions you have about the procedure or available color and shape options.
